PLEASE HELP GUYS! POLYNOMIALS. MEDAL IF ABLE TO HELP ME. Ok so I have a word problem that I need to put into a polynomial equation, then find x,y points. Can anyone please help? :) I got an equation of y=x(2x)+3(2x), so I need points.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

may I ask was the word problem was? :)

Marvel Man movie is being released to a limited number of movie theaters. The number of showtimes for the movie is twice the number of movie theaters. The number of seats available for each showtime is three times the number of showtimes. Let x represent the number of theaters showing the movie. I am stuck on the last question to this. It's: C. Interpet each pairing of factors as a single unit in the context of the problem I asked my teacher and she said "Explain what the x and y values will mean when thought of as # of seats to the movie. You should have ordered pairs that make it true" I think I'm supposed to put the terms into an equation first? The ones I got were: X = Number of theaters showing the movie 2x = Number of showtimes for the movie 3(2x) = Number of seats available @jigglypuff314

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

umm... well we know that x means "number of theaters" then if you plug a number for x into 3(2x) then you get the "number of seats" so (theaters, seats) would that work? :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would, but my teacher is looking for (number of seats, movie) @jigglypuff314

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

if y = 2x where y = number of movies and x = number of seats then ordered pair (seats, movies) would work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea, except I'm not sure how to come up with ordered pairs as examples as to why that would work. @jigglypuff314 :)

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

mmm plug in numbers for x and solve for y to get an ordered pair example that works?

ok, I think I understand. Thank you so much! @jinxhead20
