OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

The users with Smartscores between 0 to 15, post a question and never come back again. Irking..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yups I wanna know what you think about my answer!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What answer? @orion92898 o-o

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Or when they use the account once, and create many many ones after that. I feel like when a new user joins and goes to make a new account.. They should be prompted with a question or something to make sure it's not making duplicate accounts.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was saying that if I answer I want to know if it is rite or not also I agree with @beccaboo333

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

@e.mccormick let's get his take.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup good idea.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I see this a lot with questions that can easily be googled. People find out they can get the answer another way. However, if you ignore the new users, well, then there is little chance to make progress in getting more users. This makes for a double edged sword. The abandoned questions are annoying, but, at the same time, an ignored new user will leave.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

I saw a user yesterday make multiple accounts just to ask separate questions >.<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yah I left for a while but that was mostly because I was confused by the set-up for the site but I got it now.

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

My experience is that I see a new user ask a question, within MOMENTS I respond, but they never respond ever again!

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yes, Isaiah, that happens a lot. But every active user was at one time a new user. So it does not happen all the time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I guess so you drive a hard bargain I have to agree with him tho.

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

They probably come for a quick answer then are out. I mean you can not blame them when you have some individuals who literally fall right into that trap. Remember the Code of Conduct: GIVE HELP, NOT ANSWERS - I will encourage and guide those needing help, and not just give them an answer.

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

When I first joined, after bumping my question for 10 minutes, a 99er came along and gave me a quick answer and then left. I asked for them to please come back and explain it to me step by step, but they never did. This gave me a bad first impression, and I almost never came back. I'm glad I did give OpenStudy a second chance, because i found that not all the users are as unhelpful as that particular one. But remember, even though the majority of new users are side accounts or just want answers, not all of them are. The new users of today are the mods and ambies of tomorrow. And even if you answer the question of a new user and they NEVER come back to read it, remember the users on google you'll be helping. Never just give an easy answer. Math is more than just answers, math is about concepts. Give each and every user the concept, rather than just answers. Because even though some users "come for a quick answer then are out", not all of them are. I was one of those new users who wanted the concept but was only given the answer. And only getting the answer made me want to never come back to OpenStudy because I was looking for understanding the concepts, and NOT answers. So remember, every new user is a person on the other side of the screen. They're a person who may not be just struggling with one question, but rather with the entire concept. So give them the gift of knowledge which goes deeper than one question. And do that no-matter if they're new or not.
