Find the zeros of the function h(x) = 3x2 + 13x + 4 by factoring.
(3x+1)(x+4) so zeros are -1/3 and -4
Yup, right. You were faster jcates00. :)
thanks for dbl check on that
thank you sm!
can you continue helping me?
np
i suck at algebra 2
sure, but I am doing calculus so I won't be too quick
Find the zeros of the function f(x) = x^2- 5x - 6 by factoring. What is the largest zero of the function?
Close... negative one on the one zero because it is (x+1)(x-6). So -1 , 6
its telling me only to enter a number? what the heck does that even mean? what # am I supposed to enter?
Well, 6 is the largest of the two zeros. Have you tried that?
so plug in the 6?
oh wait I just enter the largest answer!
geez so dumbfounded rn
Right... if you plug either in you just get zero.
Thank you sm, you"re honestly helpong me a lot! A juggler throws a ball into the air from a height of 5 ft with an initial vertical velocity of 16 ft/s. The function that models the height h of the ball in feet t seconds after the ball is thrown is h(t) = -16t2 + 16t + 5. How long does the juggler have to catch the ball before it hits the ground?
If you plug in 5 you will find that the position function says 1.25 seconds.
This function is an upside down parabola that models height in relation to time. On a calculator simply plugging in the height (t) of five says that it hits the ground in 5/4 seconds.
1.25 is the answer correct? so therefore when its rounded to the nearest hundred it'd be 1.30
No. the hundredths place is .01 so 1.25 is to hundredths. 1.3 would be to tenths.
1.25 seconds is the solution
WOW! you're good. Are you a math teacher? Cause if you're not you should be, no joke! This is my 5th time taking algebra 2 and it"s because I just dont get it?!
No, I'm an engineering undergrad. It is sometimes easier than teachers make it.
Really? Wow! Engineering requires tons of math doesn't it? And physics huh?
and teachers do make it complicated.
Yes, a typical week for an engineering student with a part time job can average 70-80 hours of work/class/study time. You can expect to study about 20 hrs per week per higher level math or science.
omg that is too much for me to handle, I wouldn't be able to do that at all! I'm a senior in high school and honestly I'm a good student but there'd be no way I could love your life for a day!
I wouldn't say that. I used to be horrible at math in highschool. Once you get in the right classes, and dig in, you get better, but you have to take an accuplacer test to know what you need to take. It took me 3 maths to get to where math starts for engineering students. If I can do it, anybody can do it.
That's honestly so incredible and I'm amazed by it. I think I'll score bad in my math placement test, the only thing I'm good at is probably pre-algebra. But I am very good in English!
I majored in English for two years... There is nothing wrong with it, there just aren't many jobs for it outside of journalism related fields. Just research it a lot before college or you may lose expensive time if your mind changes about your major. All bachelors have a two year general ed associates half that gives you time to see how you feel about a variety of subjects. It is best taken at a jr college.
WOW and you continue to impress me more and more! I'm chatting with a GENIUS aren't I? Yeah I don't see myself doing anything of that sort. I want to do something in the medical field because I feel as if they're the ones getting all the money, so I'm heading towards that rout!
By the way I got a 90% on the quiz, thank you so much for your help!
Most medical field degrees require an Associates of Science degree which involves no less than college algebra and chemistry. Certainly you will continue to encounter math and science, so don't give up on it. Study to the level required by your program. Np, algebra is tricky stuff, and is the basis of all mathematics.
I like science, it's very interesting to me. I feel like if you're interested in the human body and how/ why everything works then you need to be a doctor or nurse or something?! I want to become a nurse so I'm hoping that won't take me along time... Algebra is pretty tricky, coming for the person who's taken it 5 times.
I'm sure you will do fine. Nursing school is tough, but if your effort is in line with your desire to work in medicine, then it will be no trouble for you at all.
Thank you, but first I need to pass my Algebra 2 class so that I'll be able to graduate then I can start seeing what I'll be doing.
mind helping me with a word problem?
Not at all
