Can someone describe to me the Marbury vs. Madison case and its connection with Judicial Review?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, well first, we have to establish that at this time, political parties, the Federalists and Democratic Republicans, formed. President John Adams, before leaving office, appointed William Marbury as Justice of the Peace. This was in the final hours of his presidency, known as a Midnight Appointment.

This was in an attempt to keep the Federalists in power since Adams was out and Jefferson was in. Jefferson's Sec. of State, James Madison, did not deliver the appointment of William Marbury. So, Marbury asked the USSC to force Madison to deliver the appointment so that he could begin his new job. Basically, judicial review stemmed from this case because the Court established its power to review any laws or cases and decide whether they were illegal (unconstitutional) or not
