The table shows the results of a spinner with four colored sections. Use the table to answer the question. The spinner is spun 50 more times. Which is the best prediction for the number of times the spinner will stop on white? A. 5 B. 10 C. 25 D. 40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is chart

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

I'm confused, your original problem states that you spun it 51 times, yet your chart does not equal 51.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no 50 times

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u solve it

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

So how was the data from the table supposedly obtained? It doesn't make sense unless it adds up to how many time it's spun originally.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm this is the original

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Oh, I understand, one moment, I just need to work this out real quick.

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Ok, so have you tried adding up the # of spins from the data table? If not, do so and tell me the total.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

100

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Exactly, so you could logically say then that however many times the spinner landed on each color is essentially already it's percentage likelihood. For instance, red was landed on 17 times out of 100. Therefore it's got a 17% chance of being landed on next time. Understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Ok, so knowing that white has a likelihood of 49% (or about half), you need to take that percentage and multiply it by the number of spins you are going to do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

49*100=49000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

No no no, percentages are converted into decimals by moving the decimal TWO places to the LEFT. so, for instance, 15% = .15, and 142%=1.42. Get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so 0.49

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Yep, now multiply that by 50.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24.5

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Which is rounded up to which of your answers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Yep! That's your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

You are most welcome. And next time, don't worry about bribing people to help you. I hadn't already helped you at all before you gave me the medal and fanned me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok
