how do you find the LCD and solve this fraction problem: 3/10+5/12+1/6
The LCD is the least common denominator, something that they can all divide into. You can use 120.
Then 3/10 has to be ?/120 and since 10 x 12 is 120, 12 x 3 is 36. So you found your first LCD fraction. Then, when you find the rest, just add them up to get the answer and remember, all the denominators have to be the same 120! :)
Just tell me if it is confusing.
so the LCD wouldn't be 60? since that can divide into 10, 12, and 6?
You can do that :) because you will still get 60 at the end since you sill simplify.
"Will still"
so it would be… 5x3/10+5/12x5+1/6x10?
15/50+25/50+10/60?
No the denominators have to be the same. Here, if you want to do 60, 10 x what is 60. 6 right? So you have to multiply 3 x 6 too. So you will get 18/60. Then you do the second problem, 5/12. 12 x 5 = 60 so 5 x 5 is 25. The second is 25/60. Then the last one is 1/6. 6 x 10 = 60 and 1 x 10 is 10 so 10/60. Then add all them up to get 53/60. You can't simplify that so that is the answer. Hope this helped :)
oh ok. i messed up by multiplying 5 times the 3 and the 10 when it should have been 6 :)
thank you
No problem! :)
you explained it much clearer than my professor lol :)
Thank You! I have never gotten that :) You just made my day! :)
