how is the magna carta, mayflower compact, enlightenment thinkers, colonists get angry, declare independece, articles of confederation, and us consitution connected? i have to creat a flow chart, and im having trouble
this is what i have so far magna carta, mayflower compact, what goes next?
englightment thinkers, colonists get angry, declare independence, article of confederation, or us constitution can you guys at least help me put it in order?
that is in order already :)
oh...really? :D yayy! hahahaha can you explain to me whan the englightmen thinkers means please?
Well, the enlightenment thinkers gave the framers of the constitution ideas for a document. so for instance, John Locke, an enlightened philosopher gave the framers the "life, liberty, and property" and the natural rights man has. Montesquieu, a french philosopher, gave us the separation of powers between judicial, executive and legislative.. does that help?
yes it does! :D do you think you can explain the others if its not that much of a bother?
Which ones? the other parts of the flow chart?
yes please. theyre really confusing
Okay.. Well, this might take a bit lol
im sorry! haha
So, the Magna Carta is what you could call the first document for "the people"..What did it establish? That a king was limited in his powers over his people and it protected their rights as well. It stopped King John from abusing his powers, due to this document, he couldn't just send people off to jail or execution without them getting a trial...
oh okay got it
The Mayflower Compact was essentially the first governing document in the colonies. It was for the creation of Plymouth Colony. The Mayflower was supposed to go to Virginia but ended up in Mass., so the Pilgrims had no legal right to be there until this document was drawn up while they were still on the ship. It established what type of government would be upheld in the colony and still claimed their allegiance to England..
ok
The colonists get "angry" for a multitude of reasons. For the longest time, England kind of left them alone but still supervised over the colonies due to the distance between the colonies and the mother country. When England was at war in Europe, they needed a way to pay off the war debts that were accumulating. So they began to tax the colonists for the most trivial of things, like tea, documents, playing cards, etc. The colonists are all, "Taxation without Representation" because there aren't colonial representatives in the Parliament. So you see the Massacre and Tea Party occur and the British are forcing their soldiers into colonists' homes and so forth.
(: yay
The Declaration of Independence is easier to understand if you know what, or in this case, who the target is. It's actually like a giant list of complaints to the King of England. It's being written and it basically (not really lol) sounds like this: "King George, blah blah blah, you did this, this and this wrong, and we're not going to stand for it!" haha
The Articles of Confederation was the first governing document of the newly established country. It was a huge failure. Here's some reasons why. First and foremost, the rights of the citizens were not outlined at all. They weren't mentioned in the A.o.C... Also, in order to make changes, the voting had to turn out unanimous, which was never going to happen. So, it was hard for the government to work because nothing could get done because the states didn't all agree on every issue completely.
woah omg xD okok yay! you;re amazing at this omg
I love history and my parents are history majors so.. its like natural for me lol
oh wow i can see how cool!
but anyways, the constitution fixed everything the A.o.C. needed to change...We have our first ten amendments, the Bill of Rights, which gives us firstly, our basic freedoms. And as I pointed out earlier, we get a lot of these ideas from the enlightenment thinkers like separation of powers, capital punishment and magna carta, trial by jury of peers, etc.
ok thank you so much!!! youre a life saver. :)))
You're welcome! It was no problem :D
