There were many inventions around the world that had changed America by many people, but only a phew of those inventions changed the way we live. A few of these brilliant people that helped change America are Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Eli Whitney, Barthelemy Thimonnier, and Nancy Johnson. There inventions could be considered as life changing. Benjamin Franklin was the first person to experience and create electricity which there forth helped Thomas Edison's invention of the light bulb! Barthelemy Thimonnier changed the way we made and saw clothes by inventing the first actual working sewing machine in 1830. You could also say that Eli Whitney played a major roll in making the production of the sewing machine by inventing the Cotton Gen in 1765. Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17th, 1706, in Boston, Massachusetts. This back then was known as the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Benjamin was a smart student at a Boston Latin school. Benjamin’s dad was a soap maker and had 17 children in all. He had seven of the kids with his first wife Anne Child and ten of the other kids with his second wife Abiah Folger. Benjamin Franklin was the 15th child and the last son! Benjamin Franklin was pulled out of school at the age of ten to help his Dad at the Candle Factory. After he worked there, James was Benjamin Franklin’s older brother that apprenticed Benjamin to his printing shop but Benjamin Franklin later on retired from that job and fled to New York. Benjamin Franklin later on discovers electricity on a stormy day. One dark and stormy evening, Benjamin Franklin was flying a Kite with a key attached to it out of curiosity when lightning hit it. Ever since then, Benjamin Franklin was always curious about electricity. (That would be a sight to see!) Benjamin Franklin sadly died later on April 17th, 1790 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the home of his daughter, Sara Bache, at the age of 64. Eli Whitney was born on December 8th, 1765, in Westboro, Massachusetts. Eli was born and raised up on a farm in Westborro, Massachusetts. Eli was always curious about how things worked such as machines work and technology. Even as young as Eli was, he started building his own nails with an invention he made along with hat pins for ladies and canes. Eli Whitney was later on accepted into Yale College in 1789 and graduated from Yale in 1792. After Eli graduated, he moved to Georgia to teach and study. Eli stayed with General Nathaniel’s wife, Catherine Green. After seeing that they were harvesting and taking the seeds out of a LOT of cotton, Eli made the Cotton Gin by the spring of 1793. It is said to clean cotton as fast as fifty men could do it. Many people tried to copy the machine so Eli sued them and was victorious. Eli Whitney died on January 8th, 1825. Barthelemy Thimonnier was born on August 19th, 1793n in L'Arbresle, Rhône (sixty nine), France. Barthelemy was the oldest of his seven brothers and sisters. Barthelemy studied at Saint Jean Seminary School in Lyon, France. Later on in 1795, Barthelemy set up a career as a trade of a tailor in Amplepuis, France. Barthelemy married to an embroider in on January 1822. One year later in 1823. Barthelemy moved to a small neighborhood of Saint-Etienne in Les Forges, France. Barthelemy sowed everyday and it got him thinking of sewing with a mechanical device. Barthelemy then took that idea and turned it into a reality and made the first working sewing machine in 1830. The sewing machine only used one thread of any color and a hooked needle that made the same chain stitch that was used in embroidery stitching. The patent for the sewing machine was issued on July 17th, 1831, but Barthelemy had already gone back to Paris before the patent was issued. Barthelemy opened a company on June 8th, 1830. Barthelemy named the company Germany Petit and co. Barthelemy went through a lot of trails and fearful moments in his life. Barthelemy later on fell ill and died at the age of 64 on July 5th, 1857. Thomas Edison was born on February 11th, 1847, in Milan, Ohio. Thomas was the seventh child of Samuel and Nancy Edison. Thomas’s father was a political activist from Canada and his mother was a school teacher. Thomas’s mother was a big role modal in his life. Thomas came down with scarlet fever when he was younger which left him with hearing difficulties in both ears. This encounter with scarlet fever nearly left him def as an adult. Thomas and his family moved to Port Huron, Michigan in 1854. At age twelve, Thomas Edison put forth his education and he convinced his parents to let him sell newspapers. Later on in life while he was working for the rail road, a close call came about in front of him. While Thomas Edison was working, an errant train about ran over a three year old boy from being ran over. The child’s grateful father awarded Thomas Edison by teaching him how to use a telegrapher. After some years, a marriage, and three kids later, Thomas Edison developed a method to record sound: the phonograph in December of 1877. This brought Thomas Edison tons of fame and fortune. The invention of the phonograph also led him to inventing many other things such as the light bulb, he became the first person to project a motion picture, and he designed a battery for Henry Fords Model T! He invested in businesses and so much other things. Thomas Edison invented even many more things after those inventions! Sadly, Thomas Edison died of complications of diabetes on October 18th, 1931, in his home in Glenmont, in West Orange, New Jersey at the age of Eighty four. Thomas Edison was and still is considered one of America’s leading businessman.
