OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

What is slope intercept form?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

slope-intercept form: y = mx + b when m = slope and b = y-intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=mx+b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=mx+b!

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

What is the equation of the line shown below, in slope-intercept form? A. y = -2x – 4 B. y = 4x – 2 C. y = -4x – 2 D. y = -4x + 2

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

im so confused

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

@jigglypuff314 to the rescue

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

what number does it cross the vertical line at?

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

-2

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes, that number is called the y-intercept y intercept = b in the equation y = mx + b so you have y = mx - 2 so far :) then, can you figure out what the slope is? like every time it goes right one square, how much does it go down?

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

is there a second point that i can count from? 0.o

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

mmm second point can be (1, -6)

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

4/1 <--- slope

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

well it's going down tho so Negative 4 right? and since slope = -4 and slope = m in the equation plug m = -4 into y = mx - 2

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

y=-4x-2

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

Correct! :)
