who ever can help me answer the question down below gets medal!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=63

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

multiply through by -7 so 77 = x + 14 then subtract both sides by 14 -14 -14 so x = 77 - 14 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait what did u do the first step or?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jikanwahayaine can you explain?

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

You could do this two possible ways. The way i'd suggest starts with you moving the "-2" to the opposite side first. And how do we do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh crap wait i typed the probelm wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-11=\frac{ x }{ -7 }-3\]

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

I multiplied through by -7 so x/(-7) times -7 = x -11 times -7 = 77 and -3 times -7 = 21 so 77 = x + 21 then subtract both sides by 21 -21 -21 so x = 77 - 21 = ?

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

It's not much different, so firstly, what is the opposite of subtracting? (as the 3 is being presently)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add the 3 to -11?

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Correct! So, from our former extensive lesson on removing the bottom of problems like these, how do we move the -7 to the left side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-8=-7?

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

How did we remove the 8 from the denominator in the previous problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yea so -7+ -11

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

No, think about it, in the last question, we had something over 8 on the right side. How did we remove the 8 from the bottom? Did we multiply, divide, add, or subtract?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait multiply

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Yes! So, now, when our denominator is -7, how do we remove it from the bottom of the right side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-11 x -7

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Correct! Now restate the equation!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

77=-3

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

How'd you get that? Didn't you put the quantity of -11x-7 on the left? And where did the -3 on the right come from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 77 but i dont know how to put it

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Oh, I'm sorry, you're correct about where the 77 went. It should have gone on the left side, so good job there, but what about the randomly appearing -3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well we didnt do anything with the -3 at the end of the problem right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait yes we did never mind is it 77=x?

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Correct. Your answer is 77. :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yay i have a worksheet that im trying to get done i have 6 left and i keep asking them cause its the first one ive done just so im making sure i do them right

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

That's fine. Anymore you need help/confirmation on?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes lol

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Then ask away!

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

And if you ever feel confidant, tell me, and try to complete it, and I'll check your answer, or however far you got.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok the problem is \[-5=\frac{ x }{ 11 }-2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and i got -33=x

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Correct!

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Next? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

next is 28 = -2x +4 and i think you subtract the 4 from both sides

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Yes indeed!

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

And final answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-12=x

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Yes again!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

greattt!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

72+2x=9x-103 is next one but im not sure how to start it

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

No problem. Just take it one step at a time. First move the "-103" to the right side, and move the "2x" to the right side. I say this because by doing this, you can keep negatives out of the final steps to solve, and it just makes it simpler.

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

So, restate your equation after you do those two steps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isnt it minus 103 tho?

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Well, yes. When I say move it, I assume that you know to add it to each side to do the following: a) You cancel it out on the left side, and b) you add it to the right side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so 175=2x=9x

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Yep. Now move the 2x to the right. And you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

175=11x?

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

No, you should have subtracted the 2x, not added it. And since I've got to go for now, finish it up, but you should get that x=25. If you have any more, message me, and I'll help when I return in a couple of hours, ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okkk thanks for all the help tho!

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

Alright, any more, lady Katie?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope ive got it all finished :D but i might be back tomorrow!
