The electric potential in a certain region as a function of the x-coordinate (in meters) is 4 - 6x + 7x^2. Find the x-component of the electric field at the point x=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this supposed to be the partial derivative of the potential function? I.e. gradients

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

posiibly yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you divide this partial by the distance or just the derivative evaluated at the position x = 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just do the derivative at x =2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Remember its the negative of the derivative \[E_x = -\frac{\delta V}{\delta x}\]
