d and a?
OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):
You need to solve for the variable BEFORE you substitute it into the the other equation.
So yes just switch D and A
OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):
And for number 2)
x = 2y - 2, 3x - y = 14
So sub in x = 2y - 2 for 'x' in the second equation
3x - y = 14
becomes
3(2y - 2) - y = 14
distribute
6y - 6 - y = 14
Combine like terms
5y - 6 = 14
Add 6 to both sides
5y = 20
Divide both sides by 5
y = ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so which one is my answer?

Well as you can see we solved y = 4 so that is your y variable in the ordered pair..
Now we solve for 'x'....plug 4 in for every 'y' you see in one equation and see what 'x' comes out to...
