Why is respiration an exothermic reaction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you kno what an exothermic reaction is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because the fuel value of your food, which contains glucose for one ( C6H12O6) gives off it's energy when it is combined with oxygen. The oxygen burns the sugar to give off energy the same way if yo took propane, another fuel with carbon and hydrogen in it, C3H8, would combine with oxygen and release it's energy...which is a exothermic reaction. Exothermic reaction is any reaction that has more energy after it reacts than it had before the reaction. Respiration is just a biological way of getting oxygen from your lungs to combine with glucose in your food and release the energy to run your body ( and give off heat and byproducts like H2O vapor and CO2)

Cellular respiration=releases energy so you can live=exothermic
