Explain how to solve and graph the solution set on a number line for the inequality shown: 2a - 10 < 2

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

you solve inequalities pretty much like equations except for one rule. That rule is, when multiplying/dividing the inequality by a negative number, the sign changes. 2a - 10 < 2 -- add 10 to both sides 2a - 10 + 10 < 2 + 10 -- combine like terms 2a < 12 -- divide both sides by 2 a < 6 To graph on a number line...learn these rules if it contains an equal sign, it has a closed dot if there is no equal sign, the dot is open < less then is shaded to the left > greater then is shaded to the right so on a number line : a < 6.....open circle on 6 (because there is no equal sign), and since it is less then (<) shading goes to the left.
