WHO EVER ANSWER IT CORRECT,GET A MEDAL & FAN why is [(1,1), (2,3), (4,5), (4,6)] NOT a function?

OpenStudy (unknownrandom):

4 since there are 2 4's in the x value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is not a function. it would not pass the vertical line test right?

OpenStudy (unknownrandom):

There is (<4>,5) and (<4>,6)

OpenStudy (unknownrandom):

It is not one though. You are correct @jeremyggg .

OpenStudy (unknownrandom):

A function can't have the same number for more than one x value.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a function is an equation for (usually) y. what is y doing when x changes? you cannot set up a single function to have y = 2x and have y equal 4 and 5. there is no single number to give those two numbers as the answer. just think of a function as trying to solve for y (not always but this idea helps a lot)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because 4 is not supposed to be used twice in the domain section. Only once :)
