Identify the function of the quoted noun clause. "Whether Dad arrives in time for the game" depends on his conference. A. subject B. direct object C. predicate noun D. object of a preposition E. appositive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Follow the pattern... What usually comes first in sentence structure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is what i'm having trouble with. im hoping that by seeing them identified it can help clarify because im home schooled and my lesson plans dont explain it and i can never get a hold of my teachers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok I have been in your pair of shoes, I know how homeschooling goes. This site will be very helpful for you. Do you know the functions of subject, direct object, predicate normative, object of preposition, and appositive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not at all. I think i understand direct object a little but not enough to explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok let me give you a brief explanation of each. try to understand and then eliminate the choices you don't think it is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Subject is who or what the sentence is about. Here is an example sentence... Ann likes to play ball. Can you find the SUBJECT?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mikayla-ann Can you find the subject in that sentence?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A depends on B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nonono that's not right @douglaswinslowcooper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"depends on" seems tricky. "I depend on you" makes it pretty clear that "I" is the subject, which was what I was driving at.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well wouldn't "on his conference" be a preposition functioning as an adverb???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, adverbial prepositional phrase. . I thought the question was the function of the noun clause at the beginning of the sentence.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok hmmm seems to make a little sense i guess. sorry for the wait, had stuff to do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We depended on your return.
