English 2 : Module 03 : Fear: 03.04 Free from Fear The speeches you’ve read in this lesson were delivered at very different times in America’s history and yet they addressed many of the same themes and concerns. Do both speakers want the audience to think, feel, or do the same things? In one speech, President Roosevelt addressed the entire nation. In President Obama’s speech he spoke to a relatively small crowd during a welcoming ceremony. In what ways is the historical context important? Freedom From Fear In President Roosevelt's speech he covers many ideas of how he as the president of the United States of America will keep our great nation at peace. President Obama stated some very interested statements that would help ease Americans from thinking the United States of America should because scarred of whats to come. After digging into President Roosevelt's speech and President Obama's speech, freedom from fear has not changed at all over time. Both President Roosevelt and Obama were confident that our great nation, is safe. Both President Roosevelt and Obama truly believed that the United States of America snood have freedom from fear. One quote that stood out to me was when Roosevelt stated “We Americans are vitally concerned in your defense of freedom. We are putting forth our energies, our resources and our organizing powers to give you the strength to regain and maintain a free world." I thought this quote was very reassuring for Americans who are concerned that our country's peace is at stake. One of President Obama's statements that stood out to me was "We believe that our citizens should be able to live free from fear." This stood out to me because President Obama truly believes that our country is safe. President Roosevelt's and President Obama's speeches had a lot in common in that they both truly believed the United States of America should be free from fear. One similarity both of their speeches had was they both wanted to reassure that America was safe and the people should not worry. Both President Roosevelt and Obama wanted the people of our great nation feel confident that their country was safe. Has the idea of “freedom from fear” changed over time? Compare and contrast both speeches to answer this question. https://prezi.com/ritl-w8uxu5h/freedom-from-fear/
