OpenStudy (hitaro9):

Domain of the inverse function of 6x+sqrt(x+37)?

OpenStudy (hitaro9):

I got [-222, infinity) but webassign says thats wrong?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Find the range of the function. that is the domain of the inverse function.

OpenStudy (hitaro9):

So, the lowest number I could get would be 6(-37) + sqrt(-37+37) right?

OpenStudy (hitaro9):

But, assuming my arithmetic is right, that's just -222 right?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

yes

OpenStudy (mertsj):

However, the domain is the set of x values. So the smallest member of the domain is -37

OpenStudy (mertsj):

And the smallest member of the range is -222

OpenStudy (hitaro9):

And I used that for my answer, but its saying I got it wrong?

OpenStudy (hitaro9):

The exact problem, I may have misunderstood what they were asking or something. Let f (x) = 6x + [sqrt]x + 37. Choose the form of the largest interval on which f has an inverse and enter the value(s) of the endpoint(s) in the appropriate blanks. Then find (f −1)' (0). Enter DNE in any unused answer blank.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I don't know what that means by choose the form of the interval

OpenStudy (hitaro9):

Here's a picture

OpenStudy (hitaro9):

The whole "form of the interval" is for closed brackets open brackets etc.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I see that and it seems like it should be -222

OpenStudy (hitaro9):

Alright. I guess it's just a mistake on my professor's part. I'll send them an email. Thanks for the help though.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

It almost looks as if you - sign is too low. Perhaps you made a typo and typed _222 instead of -222. Is that possible?

OpenStudy (hitaro9):

Nah, I just double checked that, and it's just the font.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Sorry I can't help.

OpenStudy (hitaro9):

It's okay, thanks anyways.

OpenStudy (hitaro9):

Alright, I'll try that

OpenStudy (hitaro9):

Yeah, that wasn't it
