only A
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Thanks @Aditya9826042721
Help me with the second?
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
Helping on "quizzes" or "tests" is considered CHEATING.
so if you would just not mention that it's a quiz or test *cough*
then I might be able to help,
also, please only post one question per question post :)
oh and
Please try to avoid giving such direct answers, it is against OpenStudy's code of conduct

for 1st ans is D
OpenStudy (anonymous):
would u dont want reason ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
Then could you also explain the other two for me?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
for first function is defined as for one x there is only one and one value of y therefore A is ans
since for each x diffrent y .
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yup
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh and @jigglypuff314 thanks for the tip, I'll ask for step by step help next time. Or starting now :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh I get it so the coordinates cannot repeat?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
u memories
that
for
x there is only one y
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes since graph cut x axis at 3 position
OpenStudy (anonymous):
now would understand modulus function and how to open them ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I don't get what your asking
OpenStudy (anonymous):
for ease just put in equation x=-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):
no that is wrong correct it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Wait why is it wrong?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and i am alway comfortable
OpenStudy (anonymous):
now i will tell that u put x=-3
right
OpenStudy (anonymous):
we do it step by step

first |-6+1|
OpenStudy (anonymous):
here we get |-5| +5 right
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
here the term in |----| cant open directly
OpenStudy (anonymous):
since it is not a bracket
Still Need Help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
also what do you mean by 'can't open directly'?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i am here to correct u and tell now
ans is 10 i tel u why ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yes, please explain....I just don't understand why it wasn't zero
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the term in side |...| is not open directly since
|...| called modulus function and any -ve term in it when take out from it written as positive
i.e. |-3| =3
|-789|=789
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so |-5|+5 = 5+5=10

OpenStudy (anonymous):
now dont go any where i will tell u about modulus
something more....
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
f(-3) means plug in -3 for x
for f(x) = |2x + 1| +5
so become | 2(-3) + 1 | +5
multiply | -6 + 1 | + 5
add like terms | -5 | + 5
what aditya was trying to get at was anything in the | | bars comes out positive
so |-5| + 5 becomes 5 + 5 = 10
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and also get correct that that is |...|
not (...) or {...}
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
they're called absolute values :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Is it a college level math term? Just wondering cause I don't want to use a term that wasn;t even in my math leson

not so thought man very easy now just wait i will tell u
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Can I ask my next question? or at least type it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ya why not i will get on that next time.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
are u there or not

I have you best answer since you helped me more than enough
OpenStudy (anonymous):
is that a big one....:)

Now I remember doing this in the 9th grade but as two years have passed (I'm in the 11th grade) I completely forgot what to do...

slope-intercept form: y = mx + b
when m = slope and b = y-intercept
OpenStudy (anonymous):
now use this concept
for slope m and point (x1,y1)
line has equation
y-y1=m(x-x1)
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
that's point slope form aditya
OpenStudy (anonymous):
if u cant get it than again tell me

i am in 12 th

correct! :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
really?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes that is correct
OpenStudy (anonymous):
put first x=0 and find y and than
put y=0 and find x
plot that and u get the answer
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So for this, does the line have to hit the two's only? Meaning graph 2 isn't the answer?

yes! :D

not think so

I did what you told me in the last step in reverse
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
slope / way means x is postive
slope \ way means x is negative
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So then how do I solve it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ya that is also a method
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
it slopes /
so x is positive
so it's like y = x + something

yeah B :P I was too lazy to draw XD
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ya B is right
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Do you know what symbol I'm talking about?
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
no idea....
y = number is horizontal line
x = number is vertical line
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it has slope 90 degree
here x=constant
now identify that =+or - ve

Would it be D then, y = -4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
not it is not
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So then B? I know it can't be C.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
C has an x in it
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
I think it's x = -4 without any weird symbols XD

yes it has to

So which is it? B or D

I'm confused

b since x=constant and -ve

I vote for B !!!

I have another question
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
sure
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
y = (x - h)^2 + k
where (h, k) is the vertex
OpenStudy (anonymous):
The y intercept look like it's -3 but there is no -3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it is a quadratic cuve

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
vertex is (-1, -4)
plug in h = -1
and k = -4
into y = (x - h)^2 + k
so y = (x - (-1)^2 + (-2)
