The equation y = mx + b is used to express the equation of a line. Which solution is a correct way to solve this equation for x in terms of y? Please explain? this makes no sense too me. Look at attachment.

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

Let's find out what the deal is. Here we want 'x' in terms of y. So we have to find the value of x, whatever be the value of y. So what they have done there is just part of simple equations. 1) In the first one, they had to divide the whole thing by 'm' if they had to, but they didn't divide the whole thing by 'm'. So the first one is wrong. 2) In the second one, they directly cancelled 'm + b' for no reason in step 3. 3) The third one is correct in all sense. And also represents it in the form needed. So the last one is correct. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Definitely the last one is correct.

Thank you everyone! & @AkashdeepDeb for the explanation, I wrote it down in my notes :)
