Polygon ABCD will be dilated by a factor of 2 to produce polygon A′B′C′D′. The origin is the center of dilation. Which point will not represent a vertex on polygon A′B′C′D′ ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@bibby do you know the answer to this by any chance? A) (-2,-2) B) (4,3) C) (0,2) D) (4,-2)

OpenStudy (bibby):

is there a diagram?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (bibby):

as I recall, dilation by a factor of a works like \((x,y)\longrightarrow (a*x,a*y)\) so if we dilated point A which is (-1,-1) by a factor of 2, we'd have \((-1*2,-1*2)=(-2,-2)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it was wrong :/ im pretty sure its (4,3) I found that on some other website but I wasn't sure if that was right but thank you for the help(:

OpenStudy (bibby):

I didn't say that was the answer... I'm giving you the tools to find the answer

OpenStudy (bibby):

they asked which one WASN'T in the new polygon. I just said (-2,-2) WAS in the new, dilated polygon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya I didn't read the question very well /.\

OpenStudy (bibby):

so dilate points B, C, and D and figure out which point doesn't belong

OpenStudy (bibby):

do you need another push?
