Factor the expression: x^2+9x+20=?
Find two numbers that multiply to 20, and add up to 9?
@agent0smith plese help me
with other problems like this do you work it the same way?
yes, unless the coefficient of x^2 is not 1
@emm2121 don't ask for help in someone else's question
sorry.... I'm just in dire need of help
one more question @agent0smith. how would the equation look after you factor in everything?
Try it and show me what you get...
(x+4)(x+5)?
@agent0smith
is this correct?
Foil it, to check if it's correct!
foil it?
Expand it. Multiply it out.
ok. what would i do with other numbers?
like n^2-19n+88?
Try it the same way as above. Find two numbers that multiply to the last and add up to the middle.
ok. so its two numbers that multiply with the end and add with the middle?
Multiply to equal the last, and add up to equal the middle.
oh. ok. thank you so much!
@agent0smith sorry one more question. would the second problem look like (n-10)(n-9)? or would it still be addition?
n^2-19n+88 ? does it factor to... (n-10)(n-9) expand it and find out. Or just multiply -10 and -9 and see if you get 88.
so if the symbol in the problem change does the symbol change period?
n^2-19n+88 find two numbers that multiply to 88, and add up to -19 If you can't, list all the factors of 88 and see what will add to -19
oh. ok. thats all thank you!
