Can anyone help me with sight reading. (solfege not actual notes)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The most I can think of is, if it's relative-'do', memorize the position and note of 'do'. From there you can quickly scan from note to note— you have a visual point of reference on which to determine intervals. If the problem is literally reading the material, consider printing large staff.

thanks. I think the problem might also be that I have a hard time telling what the notes are. Like after I find do I'm fine. But I always need to ask someone where do is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, especially with relative-Do. In most early training, if I recall correctly, people learn with middle C as Do. If your song isn't in middle C, determine the key that the original song is in, and that note is very often Do in a solfege/solfeggio context.

ok thanks again. Is there a way I can tell what key it is in? Sry I'm asking alot. But I want to enter this solo competition and I want to do my best. (a part of the contest is solfege)

On most sheet music, the tempo and key are listed. If the key is not directly listed, one can look to the left of the clefs, and the key can be determined by where the sharps and flats lie. (General rule— keys with sharps (#) tend to be majors, keys with flats (b) tend to be minor)

Should I just like, Google where the notes are in different keys?

It'd help! But a basic rule is, on the Treble Clef, Middle C is the bar note just outside of the staff bars and spaces. As long as you can read a basic treble clef you're more than golden!
