Did I factor this polynomial correctly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Polynomial to factor:\[x ^{2}-10xy+16y ^{2}\] \[x ^{2}-10xy+16y ^{2}\]\[x^2-8xy-2xy+16y^2\]\[x(x-8)-2y(x-8y)\]The solution is prime.

OpenStudy (btaylor):

Almost. In that last step, you do \(x^2-8xy \rightarrow x(x-8)\) when it should be \(x(x-8y)\). That makes it not prime, so you can make it \((x-8y)(x-2y)\). Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It somewhat makes sense. You are saying that I have to do...\[x^2-8xy-->x(x-8y)\]And that would come up to (x-8y)(x-2y)? Which is the correct answer?

OpenStudy (btaylor):

Yes, that is exactly right.

Thank you very much. c;

OpenStudy (btaylor):

you're welcome!

I actually have on more, but I'll tag you since it is only one question per post. c;
