Help please. I learned this before I just forget. On a number when the circle is filled in does it mean Greater than/greater than or equal to or Less than/less than or equal too? Same with a circle that's not filled in.
Is the sign greater than/greater than or equal to, less than/or less than or equal to. That's what it depends on..
On a number line? When it's filled in it just means inclusive, whether it's greater than or less then depends on which direction the line is going, if there's a line going right from 3 with a filled in circle at 3, it means greater than or equal to 3, it the circle isn't filled in it just means greater than 3
(<,>) open circle (≤,≥_ closed circle
Filled in= greater than or equal to..vice versa Not filled in= greter than.. vice versa
Thank you Destiny. that's what I was looking for. :)
(<,≤) shade to the left or point. (whether positive or negative) (>,≥) shade to the right of point. (Whether positive or negative)
The idea is that if you say, for example, x>2 then x cannot be 2 we put an open (unfilled circle) at 2. The "empty" circle is supposed to remind us that 2 is not included in the answer... because x>2 means x is not 2.
