@SectorZ423 is A correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cant see it

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

$$\Large 2|x-1| - 4 = -2$$ This.

OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

Yes

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Why don't we try solving this first, without any regard to the choices... We learn better that way... ^_^

OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

ok thats a good idea

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

First off, try getting rid of that -4 in the left-side \[\Large 2|x-1| \color{red}{- 4} = -2\] ...question is how?

OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

2(x-1)=-2

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Okay... I know I said 'get rid of' but I didn't mean it LITERALLY. More like bring it over to the right side. We want that absolute value bit (the part enclosed in | | ) to be absolutely alone on one side of the = sign. So... How to bring that -4 to the right-side?

OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

how?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Example: 5x + 7 = 17 I want to get rid of that +7 on the left-side, I can do that by subtracting 7 from both sides. Like so: 5x + 7 - 7 = 17 - 7 5x = 10 simple stuff ^_^
