(Please Help) Which figure of speech is used in this excerpt? Before the barn door strutted the gallant wingspan, that pattern of a husband, a warrior and a fine gentleman, clapping his burnished wings and crowing in the pride and gladness of his heart,—sometimes tearing up the earth with his feet, and then generously calling his ever-hungry family of wives and children to enjoy the rich morsel which he had discovered. (from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving) A:metaphor B:personification C:repetition D:simile

They are talking about a bird right? If so, it would be Personifcation, because they are giving it human-like...words. Forgot the right word for it, but they're calling a bird a "Husband, Warrior, and Fine Gentleman."

Human-like qualities. Yes, Yuba is correct in saying that personification is the answer.
