find the value of x and y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got x = 14, y = 12 but at the same time i don't understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well you know 2x+7=3x-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and that 12y+1 and 2x+7 are supplementary angles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x+7=3x-7 are corresponding angles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so how do i solve for the problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know. What are supplementary angles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sides of angles ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

formed by two rays

OpenStudy (anonymous):

supplementary angles are angles that add up to 180

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright but apparently i'm suppose to solve the equation and get x and y. So thats what I thought the most logical answer was

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have the following information. 2x+7 and 3x-7 are corresponding angles 12y+1 and 2x+7 are supplementary angles 2x+7 = 3x-7 12y+1 + 2x+7 = 180 solve for x and y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (raden):

3x-7 = 2x + 7 group them, get 3x - 2x = 7 + 7 x = 14 so, the measure of angle 3x - 7 = 3(14) - 7 = 42 - 7 = 35 degrees and 12y+1 + 2x+7 = 180 subtitute again that x = 14 12y+1 + 2(14)+7 = 180 12y + 36 = 180 12y = 180 - 36 12y = 144 y = 144/12 y = 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks that helps alot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can anyone help with more? Have a math mid term soon
