How do you divide and multiply scientific notations?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Pretty simple. For multiplication, you multiply the numbers, but for the powers of 10, you add the exponents. For example: (2 *10^3) * (2*10^6) = 4*10^9

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

For the division, it's a similar concept. You have to divide the actual numbers, but subtract the powers of 10.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you rephrase that?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

I'll give another example lol. (6*10^9)/(3*10^6) = (2*10^3)

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

As you can see, we're dividing the numbers (6/3 = 2). But we're subtracting the powers of 10, (9-6 = 3).

Oh, okay. I see now. Thak you @iPwnBunnies :)
