A compass has wire wound over its face and around its back side. What type of instrument is this and what is it used for? A. It is a simple electrical meter that can measure the resistance in the wire. B. It is a simple voltmeter that can measure the number of electrons in the wire. C. It is a simple electromagnet that can detect the magnetic field in the wire. D. It is a simple galvanometer that can detect current in the wire.
I think it's C.....
why do you think its C ?
I think that Compasses are electromagnet used to detect magnetic field.....
*Compasses are electromagnets* ?? nope they are normal magnets.. normal permanent magnets!
am I correct?
No.. like i said, compass is a permanent magnet.. if you have a wire over a compass and run a current through it.. what will the compass do?
It will detect current in the wire.
how? how will u know if there is current flowing or not?
um... honestly I think it's because the needles will be moving and it will detect the current?? sorry I really am horrible at physics.. :P
@Mashy, am I on the right track so far?
No no.. u are perfectly right.. the needle will deflect and you can detect a current so what instrument have you made for yourself?
I suggest that you look up the definitions of the various words in the answer choices. The answer should be quite clear at that point.
Look up galvanometer, electromagnet, voltmeter, and see what you think.
