Homeschooling is one of the alternatives to the traditional education that guarantees greater benefits for kids if done properly. Many parents today decide to remove their children from the public school system and teach them from their own homes, because of bullying, lack of education, and over exposure to age-inappropriate content(Figure 1). Parents are rightfully interested in ensuring their kids receive the highest attainable education, why shouldn’t they be the ones to teach them? There's a stigma when it involves homeschooling. Several critics like the NEA(National Education Association) state that if a child is homeschooled, then they won’t receive the needed social interaction that students receive when enrolled in a traditional school. Other critics like the teachers union believe that if a child isn't in a public or private school system, that child can never learn discipline or structure. This is absolutely untrue. The social interaction that homeschooled children acquire is actually greater than their public school counterparts. Further discussion exists regarding whether or not homeschooling is truly beneficial and how does it compare to public school. More parents ought to consider homeschooling their children instead of sending them to public school. Children who are homeschooled have proven to not only possess a better education, but are shown to also have a greater sense of moral values and still be balanced socially. (social) One of the principle contentions individuals have with homeschooling is that it impedes a child's social skills. Most people get a vision inside their head depicting what homeschooling would be like for them; at the kitchen table, sitting on a hard wooden chair, listening to good old mom lecture about math, health, and history all day long(Figure 2). This concern is self-addressed. Groups exist today that provide homeschoolers a well rounded, peer interaction program. These groups are based on faith, location, and interests. The homeschooling programs offered vary from physical education to weekly field outings typically with children close in age range. Children who go to public school on average only get about 3-4 minutes between each class, then they are stuck in an another class for an hour or so. Students are given a lunch break which can vary from 20-40 minutes, however this does not create much of a difference in social interaction though. The time for lunch can be used to socialize, nevertheless, most kids are confined to hanging with peers of the same age. This is how our school system is made up, the grade level the child is placed in, are the peers they should socialize with. When parents homeschool, they eliminate this problem. Children who are homeschooled are around adults more often, hence making them able to hold more intelligent conversations, but still enjoy playing with other kids. Homeschoolers can obtain just as much, if not more, social activity as any other local neighborhood student(Figure 3). Overall, the groups provide homeschooled students an opportunity for a public school experience, without all the negative pressures and vast class sizes. (moral) The NEA(National Education Association), one of the largest and most powerful unions in the United States, is trying to restrict the rights parents have to homeschool their children. They believe that homeschooling should only be allowed when the child being homeschooled can be taught by a state-licensed teacher while using a state-approved curriculum. One might ask why the NEA would care so much whether or not a parent decides to homeschool his/her child; the reason is every child they don't have seated in class, they automatically lose $200 for that child who didn't attend. This main reason is why the NEA urge parents to send their kids to public school, they want to make money. Most parents are unaware of what the NEA wants to teach our children. The NEA believes that every child should have direct and confidential access, without notification to parents, to comprehensive health, social, and psychological programs and services. This means that the NEA wants to allow your child the option to learn about how to use condoms for premarital sex, and learn about other sex educated courses through their designated curriculum. This alone is one of the big reasons why many families decide to homeschool. They want to remove their child from learning about, “the ways of the world” until they think they are at an appropriate age to do so. Theodore Roosevelt once said, “To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society.” One must take a glance at the list of kids who were once self-taught and grew up extremely successful and influential. A couple of examples of highly regarded successful people were Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Charles wingspanens, C. S. Lewis, Mark Twain, Daniel Webster, Sally Ride, Albert Schweitzer, and Pierre Currie. This list of individuals were all homeschooled for very similar reasons, one of these reasons being a better moral understanding of life. Indeed in highly regarded schools, here drug and alcohol use and sexual conduct is rarely heard of, negative peer pressure still exists. There's no faculty immune against this downside, however, for several families, it's not worth the trouble to place their children in that type of environment. Hundreds of interactions are made on a daily basis once a kid is placed into a school, unhealthy or smart interactions, and we have no control of. The handful of parents who do realize this, see that with homeschooling it is the better alternative, on the grounds that they can instruct their kids to have a stronger, more Godly foundation. (education) Finally, the last claim individuals will make is that homeschoolers won't be as well-educated as their public faculty counterparts.. Several studies have indicated that homeschoolers actually test higher on government standardized tests than the typical public educated student. In a study directed by Doctor Ray who was one of the directors at the HSLDA(Home School Legal Defense Association) saw that homeschoolers performed a significant 30 - 37 percentile greater in points then their public school counterparts in all subjects(Figure 4). An alternate study was held to substantiate Dr. Ray's work, this was carried out by Dr. L. Rudner. He entitled his work, “The Scholastic Achievement and Demographic Characteristics Of Home School Students In 1998.” This study was held with a group of 20,760 homeschooled kids, and by the end of the study, Dr. Ray's work was proven accurate. Dr. L. Rudner's work not only proved that Dr. Ray was correct in regards to homeschoolers having enhanced scores, but he was able to prove that children who invested an extended amount of time homeschooled would increase their overall average score. (Citation) (conclusion) In conclusion, homeschooling allows your child to learn one on one, removing any distractions and time limits, giving the child the chance to learn far more. Homeschooling also enhances a child's desire to be socially active and removes the age barrier that public schools have set up with the grade system. A child's moral view on life is also greatly elevated, he/she isn't around bullying, so he/she hasn't learned to react that way. In all, homeschooling does prove to be the better choice. With homeschooling parents are able to enjoy their children, teach them their idea of right and wrong, and give them the best possible education they think is needed.
