PLEASE HELP ! What value is a discontinuity of x squared plus 2 x plus 3, all over x squared minus x minus 12? I know i have to factor the top and bottom but the top can't even be fatored?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my answers are x = -1 x = -2 x = -3 x = -4 Im guessing its x = -3 since the bottom can be factored to (x-4)(x+3)??

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Did you write the numerator out correctly? x^2 + 2x +3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes thats why im confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's impossible to factor

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

I graphed it, it's saying that only the 2 vertical asymptotes exist, and I suppose you can only choose one answer Shenanigans.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Yeah, I guess the best "guess" would be x = -3, since x=4 is the other asymptote. Broken question dude.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well if you factor out the denominator one answer x= -3 is possible so I guess Ill go with that one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes just wantsed a second opinion stupid exam man ): thanks though
