how do I find the degree measure of a lettered angle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you please be more specific? Attach a drawing/picture if possible.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hopefully this helps??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what number or diagram on that sheet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

page 1 with the one underneath the riddle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright well for the first two, they are basically the same. When you have an angle, that looks at an arc like it does in the first two diagrams, the angle and the arc are going to be the same. So for the first one the angle is 75 DEGREES because the arc is 75. For the second one the arc is going to be 85 degrees because the angle is 85 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lemme figure out the third one now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.sparknotes.com/math/geometry2/theorems/section4.rhtml ^This has the theorems, you might want to check it out

OpenStudy (ranga):

Inscribed Angle = 1/2 * arc angle Arc Angle is same as the angle made by the arc at the center of the circle. For the first one, inscribed angle A = 1/2 * arc angle = 1/2 * 75 = 37.5 degrees.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its half of all of them??

OpenStudy (ranga):

In the second one you are given the inscribed angle and you have to find the arc angle P which will be double the inscribed angle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

240 times itself?

OpenStudy (ranga):

What is your answer for the second one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

85?

OpenStudy (ranga):

No. Look at my reply before the previous one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldn't that be a really high number. Because that would mean i would have to do 85 times 85?

OpenStudy (ranga):

"double" means times 2. If I have $5 and I double it it becomes $10 not $5 * $5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

170

OpenStudy (ranga):

yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i was told that the third one is different?

OpenStudy (ranga):

Yes, the third one is different. Come back to it later. Finish as many problems as possible that make use of the concepts I mentioned earlier: Arc Angle is same as the angle made by the arc at the center of the circle. Inscribed Angle = 1/2 * arc angle (or 1/2 * angle made by the arc at the center)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you a math teacher?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and there was only 2 others i could do that were the same as the other?

OpenStudy (math_genius123):

yep all good here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like im doing this right?

OpenStudy (math_genius123):

yeah ur good ;-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thx :)

OpenStudy (math_genius123):

np

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah cuz I have no idea how to do the rest of the problems.. will you help me??

OpenStudy (math_genius123):

um i dont know what grade ur in

OpenStudy (math_genius123):

i can help but i need age and grade

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's weird.. so no thanks

OpenStudy (math_genius123):

wait ok fine just grade

OpenStudy (math_genius123):

idk what the grade is i might not know them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its on the link above! duh!

OpenStudy (math_genius123):

sorry sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k so are you gonna help me or not?

OpenStudy (math_genius123):

yeah sure babe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah don't call me that and just tell me either how to do this or leave!

OpenStudy (math_genius123):

ok sorry ok what u need help what question

OpenStudy (ranga):

This link should help you answer the remaining questions: http://www.regentsprep.org/Regents/math/geometry/GP15/CircleAngles.htm

OpenStudy (math_genius123):

yep thats it
