Now Hear This: Turn the Volume Down! Listening to loud music through headphones for too long can harm your hearing, experts warn If you listen to a portable music player, hearing experts have a message for you: Turn it down! A recent poll found that 51 percent of high school students and 37 percent of adults have experienced at least one symptom of hearing loss. What could be the cause? Kids and teens are listening to portable MP3 music players, such as Apple iPods, louder and longer. These players have maximum sound levels as loud as a jet engine!
A Look at Hearing Health The poll was conducted for The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Results showed that 28 percent of high school students and 26 percent of adults have had to turn up the volume on their televisions. Twenty-nine percent of students reported saying "what" or "huh" during conversations compared with 21 percent of adults. Seventeen percent of students and 12 percent of adults said they have heard ringing in their ears. More than half of the adults polled said they listen to their music players between one and four hours, or even longer, at a time. Most students said they listened for less than an hour at a time. Fifty-nine percent of students said they played music at a high volume, compared with 34 percent of adults. Calling for More Research Experts say more research is needed to prove a definite link between portable music and DVD players and hearing loss. But they suspect these players are contributing to hearing problems. "Many kids who are using this type of technology are plugging virtual rock concerts into their ears," said Pam Mason of the ASHA. Protect Your Hearing How can you protect your hearing? Experts recommend turning the volume down and cutting down on music listening time. They also suggest switching from earbuds to larger earphones. Earbud headphones, like the ones often used with iPods, carry sound directly into the ear canal. Traditional earmuff-style headphones allow the sound to spread out, according to the National Institutes of Health. What does the author suggest doing to protect your hearing? Stop watching television Using larger earphones instead of earbuds Turning up the volume of portable music player Listening to music longer
i think B btw

Okay, I'm a bit old-fashioned. I still think no digital camera in the world will give me the depth of color and detail of my old Pentax K1000, a traditional 35 millimeter film camera. But recently I discovered how to create even more spectacular photos with my Pentax, by holding the shutter open and shooting "time exposures." Holding the shutter open longer will absorb more light, which accounts for the richer detail that can be achieved. However, any movement will cause a blur, so time exposures work best for landscapes. You'll be amazed how the detail in the photos will make mountains, trees, and even the city skyline come alive. Have I caught your interest enough to try time exposures? If so, you'll be glad to know that you can start this hobby for pretty cheap. First, see if there's an old 35mm camera lying around the house that your parents will let you use. If not, they're easy to find at garage sales or on eBay for under $50. Just make sure the camera has an exposure setting marked with a "B" (for bulb). This setting will allow the shutter to stay open as long as you want. You also need to buy a cable release. This is a cable that attaches to the top of the camera. It has a little plunger on one end that lets you open and close the shutter without touching or moving the camera. Used camera shops will stock this item in various lengths. It should cost from $10 to $20. Finally, it's a good idea to have a tripod, which is a three-legged base that you can mount your camera on. But I wouldn't purchase one until you know you like this hobby. For now, you can just prop the camera on something sturdy. Now comes the fun part. Just go outside and find a nice piece of scenery you'd like to shoot. Set the camera up on a stool or bench. Attach the cable to the top of the camera, making sure it's switched to the "B" setting. Frame your shot, focus the camera, and hold down the plunger. You should hear a click as the shutter opens. After a few seconds, let the plunger back up and advance the film to the next shot. Try different angles and different lengths of exposure, from a few seconds to an hour or more. Also try going out late at night and taking longer shots of nighttime objects like the Moon. Of course, with a non-digital camera, you won't be able to view the shots right away. You'll have to wait for the film to come back. So here's what I suggest: "Bracket" your shots, which means keeping track of how long you kept the shutter open for each photo. Just keep a notebook with you and write down something like "#1, 30 sec." That way, when you get some great shots back, you'll know how you achieved them! How does the author support the claim that time exposure photography is inexpensive? by describing how to shoot a time exposure by comparing digital cameras to film cameras by telling readers which equipment they'll need by giving the prices of the equipment needed
Thanks for the medals lol :P Here you take this one @hanner_B_nanner

In the past 10 years, public consumption of bottled water has grown a lot. A decade ago, very few people drank much bottled water. Now, studies estimate that about 200 bottles of water per person are consumed every year. However, all that bottled water is causing a lot of problems. First of all, very few of the bottles are being recycled. About 60 million bottles of water are consumed daily. There just is not enough room for all that garbage. Secondly, bottled water is actually less safe than tap water. Government safety requirements are much stricter for tap water. A large percentage of bottled water comes straight from city water supplies, anyway! And, surprisingly, tap water often beats bottled water in taste tests. Directions: Select all the correct answers. (BTW it can be more than one) What is the author's attitude toward water? Not enough people drink water from bottles. Tap water should be tested yearly for safety. More people should drink tap water. Tap water is perfectly safe to drink. People should participate in water taste tests. Submit

It is important for a person to develop a habit of waking up early to exercise. Early morning workouts energize the body for the rest of the day. In fact, early morning exercise ensures that the extra calories stored in the body are used. When a person exercises in the evening, his or her body uses the calories from food eaten throughout the day. Cruise ships might be a fun way to take a vacation, but they do far too much damage to the environment. The ships are harmful to marine life. Research suggests that cruise ships produce more than three times the amount of CO2 that airplanes do. Furthermore, cruise-ship passengers do not spend enough time at a given destination to learn about its culture. Thus, the passengers do not promote local culture. The next time you want to take a vacation, try taking a train or plane to your destination instead. Read the last sentence of the paragraph. It is clear that the author wants readers to find an alternative to cruise ships when taking a vacation. learn about the impact of CO2 on cruise-ship passengers. compare the speeds of different modes of transportation. think about the ways in which airplanes harm the environment.

What is art? People debate this question all the time. This is because society’s definition of art is confusing. For example, most of the items that one finds in an art museum should not be called “art.” These are merely historical artifacts that people—or museum curators—have paid money to acquire. True art, on the other hand, is never sold. Instead, if it is to be called “art,” it must be free. Likewise, a true artist will never sell his or her creations, because the artist knows that true art cannot be exchanged for money. 2. Which of these best describes the author's tone in this passage? uncertain eager confident humorous
