Need lots of trig help please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Robbiek Do you have a question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes one moment ill attach the file so its easier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Page 22 1-15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I'll pick a couple of questions at random, guide you through them, and then ask you to do some on your own. Fifteen questions is a lot (as if you didn't know).

OpenStudy (mathmale):

"6 times a number is 18." Please pick any letter of the alphabet to represent the unknown number. (This is Algebra.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I actually figured this out Thank You though Im having some problems with factoring now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Page 25 1-10 is what im having trouble with now

OpenStudy (mathmale):

choose any 2 problems for us to use as examples.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 and 2 please

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I'll need a minute to find those 2 problems. Hold, please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright Thank you

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Solve by factoring: 1. x^2+2x-8 = 0 2. x^2+ 2x - 15 = 0 Are these the problems y ou want to work on? Have I copied them correctly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Look at \[x^2+2x-8=0\] this is called a "trinomial" because it has 3 terms. since the coefficient of the x^2 term is 1, this trinomial will have two binomial factors that look like this:

OpenStudy (mathmale):

(x - )*(x - ).

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Our job is to find the constants that go into each factor. Now please look at the 3rd term: -8. What are possible factors of -8? Clue: (-8)(1), (? )( ?)

OpenStudy (mathmale):

-8 = (-8) times (1); also, -8 = (8) times (-1). What are some more factor pairs whose product is -8?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@RobbieK : OpenStudy indicates that you are now "offline." Did you log off, or did you lose your Internet connection? I'd like to think that you're interested enough in solving these algebra problems to stay with this discussion, at least for a while, or to tell me that you had to go do something else.
