@mathslover

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$$13\cos x = 8$$ This is true, because the length of the hypotenuse multiplied by the cosine of the angle measure is the equal to the length of the adjacent side. Basically, we want to isolate the cos(x) first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So we solve as cos(x) = y. $$13y = 8$$ We divide both sides by 13 to obtain y = 8/13. We're not done, however.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$$\cos y = \frac 8 {13}$$ We now take the inverse cosine of both sides to obtain the angle, y (sorry I've been using the wrong variables.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its ok i understood anyway

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, I leave you with the easy part: What is $\cos^{-1} (\frac 8 {13})$?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it 52.02?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oops. I forgot I'm not on math.stackexchange.com.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because i did 8/13 = 0.615

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, it's 52.02 degrees.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then the inverse of cos

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks i get it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

52
