I need some help on this problem. 7=2y - 3 I will type up what i have done, but my answer never gets me 7.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add 3 divide by 2

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

The purpose of solving for y is so that when you plug it back it, you would get 7 = 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7=2y-3 first i subtract 3 from 7 and 3. then i get 4=2y. second i multipli 2 by each side and i get 4 times 2 equals 8 and 2 cancels out. so i now have 8 equals y. when i pluge that in i get 13.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know what i have done wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add 3 instead

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i'll try that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[7=2y-3\\ 7+3=2y-3+3\\ 10=2y\]

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

because you have a "- 3" so to move/undo a minus, you have to add :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i kind of get it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i'll show my work give me a sec
