Explain the reproductive advantage of gymnosperms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Gymnosperms are plants with seeds lacking any fruit. The relatively small number of species makes them very diverse in their reproductive structures and overall structure. Angiosperms have "fruit" or "flowers" around their seeds and have displaced gymnosperms as being more efficient in reproduction and survival. Angiosperms use a variety of adaptations to get their pollen moved from plant to plant, increasing their ability to survive, including bright colors and food sources. In this matter there is no clear advantage in the reproduction realm for gymnosperms compared to angiosperms.
