can someone explain to me the digits after 3.14of PI and whi is 3.14 followed by 159?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3.1415926535

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but why that is my question i know i sound dumb but i better ask

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

The value of PI is a transcendental number. It follows no repetitive pattern of any kind.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and how do u get 159 by multiplying or what do i do to understand the process?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Getting the value of PI is a complicated process and none of the formulas will generate a bunch of figures after just a few calculations.

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

pi is an IRRATIONAL number and it cannot be written as a fraction 22/7 is an approximation pi is the relation between diameter and circumference

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aha .ty guys :)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

PI = 4/1 -(4/3) +(4/5) -(4/7) +(4/9) -(4/11) +(4/13) Calculate this to the 4/9 term and you get 3.3396... This does NOT give results very quickly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you vry much it now makes sense to me i appreciate your help

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

If you carry out the calculations of that formula to the 4/37 term you get 3.1941879092 That is first time you will get 3.1 for a PI value.

ty wolf

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

u r welcome As you can see this is NOT something that is easily calculated.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct
