Letter to the Editor


Here's a letter to the editor in a local
newspaper:
I live near the corner of Hyacinth and 54th
Street, where the city plans to build a new
light-rail station. I believe that light rail is a good
idea to reduce automobile traffic in our city, but I
oppose the destruction of stores that is planned
in order to build a train station at this corner. The
shops in this area are not elegant, but they
provide discount items for people in the
neighborhood who need them. I have many
friends who buy clothes for themselves and their
children at the Clothing Re-Use Store located
there, and they would be unable to live within
their limited incomes without this store. These
shops also include an auto parts outlet, a fabric
and sewing notions store, a drugstore, and a
miscellaneous discount retail store. These
stores serve an essential role for people who
need easy access to these items. Even if the
train is finished and the station is built, these
people will not be able to ride the train to a mall
in the suburbs to shop there. They could not
afford to shop at the mall, and the cost of the
train ride would be high for them, also.

most definitely the last option. The first option has nothing to do with the point the author is trying to make and the second one isn't as clear.
