If Kierans's savings are represented by K and Simon's savings are represented by S, then you can write two equations to represent their savings. \[K=\frac{ 9 }{ 2 }S\] \[S=K-28\] Now you can use substitution to find out how much Kieran saved.\[K=\frac{ 9 }{ 2 }(K-28)\] \[K=\frac{ 9 }{ 2 }K-126\] \[\frac{ -7 }{ 2 }K=-126\] So, with this, we can conclude that Kieran saved 36 dollars. If Simon saved 28 dollars less than Kieran, then he saved only 8 dollars. Together, they saved $44.
