why arent there any cures for genetic disorders

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi! I've been working in biotech ~ 17yrs and there ARE successful gene therapies for humans. Although earlier clinical trials ~ 1999 resulted in terrible massive immune responses to the viral vector (Adenovirus), since 2006 there have been promising new gene therapies. Google Glybera - this is an approved gene therapy in EU. There are also many biotech companies working on therapies for genetic diseases (not gene therapy, but, replacement enzymes for people afflicted with genetic diseases): ex BioMarin, Genzyme, Hope this helps!

to DayneCallum : how gene therapy works?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Using a viral vector such as adenovirus, genetic material is inserted into the cell which contains abnormal genes which aren't producing the necessary proteins or enzymes. In very simple terms, use a genetically modified virus to insert genes into cells.
