Do you know what |x| means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you give answer i am so far behind i need help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|x| denotes the modulus of x, aka as the absolute value of x. This is simply the positive part of x, without a negative sign. Some examples: |3| = 3, |-5| = 5, |-y| = y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure if this is how you're used to approaching problems, but you may want to consider graphing the equation "y = |x|"

Write the equation of the line in slope-intercept form with a slope of -6 and a y-intercept of 9.how will i solve this please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I take it you are unfamiliar with slope-intercept form? In that case it refers to equations of the form y = mx + c, where m is the slope and c is the y-intercept.

@tesla117 here is a graph showing the shape of y = |x| and also the line y = 11. The shaded area shows the region where |x| < 11, as can be observed from the two lines. Hence you can see the range of values of x for which the inequality |x| < 11 is satisfied. |dw:1396041696660:dw|
