Please help me use the factor theorem to factor this polynomial f(x)=4x^4 + 4x^3 - 35x^2 - 36x - 9

OpenStudy (ranga):

Try a few small integer values of x to see if f(x) becomes zero. Find f(1), f(-1), f(2), f(-2), f(3), f(-3), etc. until you get a "hit". If f(a) = 0 it implies (x-a) is a factor. Do synthetic division and find the quotient. Try a few other integers to see if the quotient becomes zero. (no need to try the same integers that were tried before that did not give f(x) = 0).
