Algebra 2 help Please! Let set A = {odd numbers between 0 and 100} and set B = {numbers between 50 and 150 that are evenly divisible by 5}. What is A ∩ B? A. {50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 70, 85, 90, 95} B. {55, 65, 75, 85, 95} C. {all odd numbers between 1 and 99} D. {numbers between 1 and 150 that are evenly divisible by 5}

OpenStudy (btaylor):

The intersection of the sets will contain odd numbers between 50 and 100 that are evenly divisible by 5. I got this by merging the two requirements. Which of the answer choices is described by what I wrote above?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D. (: @BTaylor

OpenStudy (btaylor):

not quite. because a number like 120 would not fall into the categories required by the first set.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay! So it would be C right?

OpenStudy (btaylor):

no, because a number like 9 wouldn't fit the categories required by the second set.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I want to say A, but B also has all numbers that are evenly divisible by 5, so I'm a little lost. @BTaylor

OpenStudy (btaylor):

Are all the numbers in answer A divisible by 5 and odd? Are all the numbers in answer B divisible by 5 and odd? The one that fulfills both of these requirements is your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would be B then?

OpenStudy (btaylor):

yep!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I made that harder than what it was xD

OpenStudy (btaylor):

Yeah, a bit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol Can you help me with another one?

OpenStudy (btaylor):

sure!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! :D Let set C = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8} and set D = {2, 4, 6, 8} Which notation shows the relationship between set C and set D? C ∪ D C ∩ D D ⊆ C C ⊆ D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The symbols throw me off :l

OpenStudy (btaylor):

The ∪ symbol means "union". So, the union of two sets is all its combined elements. The ∩ symbol means "intersection". So, the intersection of two sets is all the elements that are in both sets. The ⊆ symbol means "contained in" or "subset." So, all of the elements of one set are contained in another set.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so hopefully I understand this lol From what you wrote, I'm going to go with choice D.

OpenStudy (btaylor):

It's actually C, since all of set D (2,4,6,8) are CONTAINED IN C.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, that makes more sense! As you were typing, I was looking over my answer choice and knew it was wrong lol
