*MATH HELP!* medal and fan! :) Which ordered pair does not satisfy the system 2x + y > 0 and -2x - y > -8? A. (-1, 4) B. (-1, -1) C. (2, 3) D. (3, -2) - Please make sure to explain how you got the answer. Thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Literally put each pair into each equation and see which doesn't produce a true statement.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, into the inequalities, not equations.

OpenStudy (emmyma):

Hey! @slaw, thanks for taking the time to answer me. Could you explain to me how to do this? Sorry if this sounds kind of dumb. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Each ordered pair \((a,b)\) represents the pair of values \(x=a\) and \(y=b\). Replace the \(x\)'s and \(y\)'s in the inequalities with these values and simplify. You'll get some true expressions, like \(1\geq0\), and some false ones, like \(3\leq2\). Any pair that produces a false expression doesn't satisfy the system.

OpenStudy (emmyma):

Thank you! I get it now :))
