cos^2(x) +1 =cos^2(x) + sin^2(x) identity

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

that is not an identity because left hand side = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@cwrw238 sorry it's cos^2(x) +1 =2cos^2(x) + sin^2(x)

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

ahh thats more like it

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

lets take the right side and replace sin^2 x by 1 - cos^2 x ( we get this from the identity sin"x + cos^2 x = 1) the right side becomes 2cos^2 x + 1 - cos^2 x do you see how to continue?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@cwrw238 yes thank you
