How do i get the secant on a calculator without having a sintax error?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

get new batteries :)

OpenStudy (phi):

go back to basics sec x = 1/cos x

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Try this: suppose you want to find the secant of 30 degrees. 1. Set your calculator to DEGREE mode. 2. Press the appropriate key for cos( 3. type in 30, followed by a right parenthesis: you should see cos(30) 4. enter This result is cos 30 deg. To obtain sec 30 deg, use either the |dw:1396298646647:dw|

OpenStudy (mathmale):

key, or find the reciprocal of cos 30 by typing this in: 1/cos(30) ENTER.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

this assumes you have a TI-83 or -84 calculator.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

but 1/cos(90) still gives me a syntax error ....

OpenStudy (mathmale):

cos 90 deg is zero, so the reciprocal of that is undefined. Thus, the secant of 90 deg is also undefined.
