whats the difference in P(AuB) and P(AnB)

OpenStudy (askme12345):

AUB is a and b as a union Anb is the intersection so if set a is (1,2,3,4,5) and set b is (1,2,4,8,9) AUB is (1,1,2,2,3,4,4,5,8,9) AnB is (1,2,4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you good with using those to find P(A) or P(B)? @askme12345

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In terms of probability: P(AuB): Mutually exclusive events. Eg: When you roll a dice, you get only one number at a time. P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) P(AnB): Two events, A and B overlap. You must therefore subtract the intersection P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B)

OpenStudy (askme12345):

Yeah, You would use the formulas that @twicker wrote above!

thank you both!
