Convert 500 gallons into pounds ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I Did , It didnt work

OpenStudy (mathmale):

This is a tricky question because you don't specify what you are measuring. One gallon of water weighs about 62.4 lb. One gallon of the liquid metal, mercury, would weigh MUCH, MUCH more. So, either supply info about the liquid you are measuring, or state "I'm assuming that we're measuring the weight of 500 gallons of water" (or something like that).

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@Yantz15: Where did that come from? You haven't specified which liquid you're measuring. Please show your method, but avoid giving direct answers (not that this one is correct.)

The liquid Is Water .

if the gallon was of water it would be 4000 lbs , times 8 by 500 because a gallon of water weighs about 8 lbs

thomaster (thomaster):

1 gallon water = 8.34 lbs as far as I know. So it would be 8.34*500 = 4170 lbs

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@thomaster : (with face red): Thanks for the correction! I was thinking of ONE CUBIC FOOT of water weighing 62.4 lb. Apologies to anyone whom I've confused.
